Clarinets Direct was founded a mere 12 years ago and has, in a short time, established itself with unique success, on both the International and Domestic market. The reasons for this success are not hard to find: The company offers a personal, expert service, and value for money prices, which are ever more crucial in the current period of economic difficulty. In the past 8 years many other UK dealers have either gone out of business, or compromised on the quality of the instruments they offer to the customer. Clarinets Direct remains committed to offering both quality and value, as our mantra is that an older, beautifully made, and restored, professional instrument is often a far wiser purchase than the poor quality mass produced instruments sourced, or made with manufacturing plant sourced, from the Far East. It is more than ever a case of “buyer beware” as many companies who advertise their clarinets as made within the UK or USA are, whilst legally permitted to do so, misleading their customers. A good condition vintage Buffet R The Silver plated key work is in good throughout, with only slight signs of wear. The wood is in good condition, but there are surface marks, consistent with its age. There is some evidence of what may be an old pinned repair, see photos 5, and 6. However there is no crack into the bore, and also no observable crack to the wood surface, so this just could be surface marks to the wood.

As the Buffet range is now quite vast I thought that a short summary of the differences, as I and many customers have found them, would be useful for anyone contemplating a purchase or just interested in a more thorough understanding of these fine instruments.
I do not propose an engineering review full of specifications and key work listings or a detailed history of manufacturing – the Buffet website www. This post is a revised version of a blog post from my old blog from several years ago. I have updated it along with moving it here to provide better clarity for readers on the topic. No name is more known in the clarinet world than Buffet. From student to teacher, amateur to professional, almost every clarinet player has at some time played on a Buffet clarinet.
One of the most popular models is the Buffet E While these terms mean different things depending on who you asked, the simple fact was that the E11 was easy for any student to move to from their plastic student model Buffet or not and get a noticeably improved tone. Sadly, there has been much misinformation as to what really was going on with the E11 out there that it has led me to write this post to try to help clear things up.
The original Buffet E11 was made in West Germany and was made with nickel plated keys. At some point in production, the German made Buffet E11 was transitioned to silver plated keys, though I do not have the exact date for this transition. Most people are really only familiar with one of these two variants of E11 as it was they were the longest in production. The production of these clarinets were outsourced to a company called Schreiber-Keilwerth.
For most people, when they discuss an E11, the version that they are usually referring to is the silver plated key model, made in Germany, with a screened on no imprinted into the wood Buffet-Crampon logo that says Paris in the logo as Buffet-Crampon is based in Paris and used a

Home bassoons Serial Numbers. Some preliminary comments. So these numbers should not be taken too literally. There are various points during the production process when a number can be given to a bassoon. One factory might number the instruments at the start of production, after which the parts will be kept together at all times, but the delivery dates can then start to diverge.
Making a bassoon involves a few hundred manufacturing stages, any of which might delay the manufacturing process. This means that a bassoon with a serial number from late might easily be completed or delivered in early The delivery dates are much more accurate for firms that add the numbers to their instruments at the end of the production process.
